Christchurch, known world wide as the "Garden City" is the largest city in New Zealand's South Island, and offers a range of sights, sounds and activities for the visitor and local alike.
Set on the Canterbury Plains, Christchurch is surrounded by mountains and the Port Hills, which has a beautiful coastline and many well maintained parks. Well known relaxation areas are spread throughout the centre and outskirts of the city - take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park, relax on Sumner Beach or Taylors Mistake, or view the beauty from up high by taking a ride in the Gondola at Mount Cavendish.
In Cathedral Square, you will find Buskers and street stalls. You may also enjoy the architecture of Christchurch's central Cathedral. The city also boasts a fully restored Victorian electric tram. The loop that you take passes many of the sights and is well worth the time to travel back in time to the pace of yesteryear. Relax at the Art Centre and enjoy the variety of stalls and galleries.
Surrounding the city there are a multitude of activities for all walks of life. Including golf courses and driving ranges, tennis courts, wild life parks, walking tracks, cycle tracks, wind surfing, boating, hot air ballooning and much more. During the winter there are great ski fields within 1-2 hours drive, and the sea and river fishing is abundant but check to see what license you require and season regulations.
